Equal Protection Under The Law

The Fourteenth Amendment has a clause, the equal protection clause, and it states...
"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
The intentions of the clause,was not to give "equality." It was meant to give everyone "equal protection," which essentially means that there is no discrimination under the law. It stressed that discrimination should not be held against people based on gender and race.
Equal protection under the law: Equal protection under the law is the right of all people to have the same access to the law and courts and to be treated equally by the law and courts, both in procedures and in the substance of the law.
